It is safe to swim once again at Don Carter State Park in Gainesville, officials announced Thursday afternoon.
An advisory had been issued for the parks beach area, which is on Lake Lanier, advising against swimming or wading in the water, due to high bacteria samples.
The high bacteria levels were discovered in a routine test of the water, and in another routine test Thursday, those levels had returned to normal, according to officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Samples will be taken on a weekly basis for the remainder of the month.
