A section of a road in Jackson County will be closed for up to 90 days starting Monday for replacement of a 79-year-old culvert.
The work on State Route 11/US 129 will necessitate a 14.7-mile detour, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
A GDOT press release says the detour will allow construction to move faster, and cost less than if a temporary lane was built for traffic during construction. Traffic will be routed from SR 11/US 129 in Jefferson to SR 82 to SR 211 and back to SR 11/US 129.
Currently the roadway is scheduled reopen by October 15.
This existing culvert was installed in 1938.
