Weekend fire destroys Banks County home

Officials with the Banks County Fire Department are looking to determine what triggered an early morning house fire which destroyed a home in Commerce Sunday.

A press release from Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols says their units responded with Jackson County fire crews to a home along the 100 block of Zays Lane in Commers, just after 12:30 a.m. on November 24.  

Upon arrival units found a single-family structure fully involved, with a total loss determined for the structure. Firefighters also discovered damage to a nearby residence and an adjacent brush fire.  All fire damage was doused and contained from further spreading through the area by 2:45 a.m.

No one was residing in the structure that was a total loss at the time of the incident. The resident was home next door at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The incident is under investigation by the Banks County Fire iofficials and the cause is listed as undetermined at this time.
