One person killed in Dawson County traffic accident

A Dawsonville man has been identified as the victim of a single-vehicle crash on Sunday afternoon on Elliott Family Parkway in Dawson County. 

The Georgia State Patrol said the fatal crasha occurred just before 5 p.m.

"Dawson County Dispatch was notified of a one vehicle crash down an embankment on SR 183 (Elliott Family Parkway) approximately one mile north of SR 53," said Trooper Mark Cox in an email statement. "The driver, Mr. James Everett Evans, 75 years old from Dawsonville, GA, was pronounced deceased on-scene."

Cox said Evand was the only occupant in the 1992 Ford Ranger.

"The vehicle was traveling south on SR 183 while entering a left hand curve. The vehicle traveled off onto the west shoulder causing the driver to steer left," Cox said. "The vehicle traveled across both lanes, traveled off the east shoulder, traveled down an embankment, and struck a tree with its left front fender and driver’s door before overturning onto its right side."

Cox said Evans was not wearing his seat belt.
