Habersham Central High School student killed in Wednesday morning car accident

A student from Habersham Central High School has died following a traffic accident before school Wednesday morning. 

A statement released by the Habersham County Sheriff's Office and the Habersham County School System said the accident happened on Camp Creek Road around 7:45 a.m. Three HCHS students were involved in the accident, and all three were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment. One of the students died at the hospital.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, and as of Wednesday at noon had not released details on how the accident happened.

The names of the students have not been made public. 

According to the statement, the Habersham County School System, working in conjunction with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, has put into place a school support system to assist students, faculty and staff in coping with the tragedy.

Counselors from other schools within the school district have been relocated to Habersham Central High School for additional support and Habersham Central High School counselors will be visiting classrooms of all three students today to tell them about the accident and offer them support passes to leave immediately, or be excused at any time during the day, to meet with counselors. Counselors will also be stationed in the staff development room of the high school to provide support services all day for students, faculty and staff.
