Police: Woman arrested at Gainesville Middle School after posting video threats

By AccessWDUN Staff
The parent of a student who attends Gainesville Middle School was arrested on a charge of terroristic threats after she made what was a described as an angry video complaining about her son being bullied.

Sgt. Kevin Holbrook with the Gainesville Police Department said officers had been tipped off about a Facebook Live video Cirea Dizrea Oliver, 29, had posted on Monday, Dec. 16.

"During this video she made some very concerning comments in regard to the school system, in regards to some children's safety, even mentioned the use of firearms, which we took very seriously," Holbrook said. "We were able to obtain warrants for her and when she showed up at the school, which she stated that she would in this video, she was taken into custody."

Holbrook said school resource officers at Gainesville Middle School were tipped off to the video and that's when they began to investigate. He said they also determined that Oliver had an active warrant out of Cobb County for aggravated assault with a weapon.

"So looking at the totality of the circumstances, it was important for us to get her into custody as soon as possible, and when she showed up at the school, that's exactly what we did, " Holbrook said.

Holbrook said officers tried to find Oliver before she arrived at the school, but were unsuccessful in their search. He said Oliver was arrested without incident around 3 p.m.

Holbrook said he could not discuss the validity of Oliver's complaints in her video, saying that was an issue that the school system would have to address.

"Our priority is the safety and security of the school system," Holbrook said.

Oliver remained in the Hall County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon.

Late Wednesday, Lynn Jones, Community and Communications Coordinator for Gainesville City School System released a statement regarding the incident.

"On Monday, December 16, Gainesville City School System and Gainesville Middle School were alerted to threats made by a parent. Working with the Gainesville Police Department and School Resource Officers, an arrest was made on school property. While we cannot release information pertaining to specific student situations, the district utilizes established procedures for bullying and suicidal ideation," the statement reads. "Our primary focus is to ensure that appropriate resources and services are available to students whenever needed. We encourage our students and staff to inform appropriate personnel when the need for services arises."
