Capt. Kevin Thompson of Hall County has been appointed as Director of the Georgia State Patrol's Aviation Division.
Thompson, a 30-plus year Georgia State Patrol veteran, assumed his new responsibilities on Friday, March 1, 2019.
As director, Thompson will oversee the operation of six Georgia State Patrol hangars across the state. The Aviation Unit facilities are located in Kennesaw, Albany, Gainesville, Reidsville, Perry and Augusta. Thompson will be responsible for a staff of some 25 GSP employees.
Thompson began his GSP career as a radio operator in September 1985 in Washington, Ga. He graduated on Oct. 14, 1988 from the 63rd Trooper School and upon graduation was assigned to the Thomson GSP post. He transferred to Gainesville Post 6 in 1992.
Thompson served at the Gainesville post until he transferred as a Senior Trooper to the Aviation Division as a pilot on Jan. 1, 2002.
