A Fannin County woman and her 3-year-old son were shot and killed Monday night, apparently at the hands of the woman's boyfriend.
Nelly Miles with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the GBI was asked to assist the Fannin County Sheriff's Office with the investigation into the shooting deaths of Amber Jackson, 31, and her son Ethan.
Miles said deputies went to an apartment on Underwood Road in Morganton when a 911 caller reported shots had been fired in the area.
When deputies arrived, they found the victims dead on the front steps of the residence.
"Jackson’s boyfriend, Joshua Lee Fults, age 35, was located on the porch of the residence suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," Miles said in a press release.
Fults was placed under arrest at the scene and then he was transported to a hospital, where he was last reported in critical condition.
Miles said Fults has been charged with murder in the Jackson's death and other charges are forthcoming.
Once the GBI finishes its investigation, findings will be turned over to the Appalachian Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
