MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The No. 14 Piedmont College baseball team won a pair of contests over the Huntingdon Hawks Friday completing game one of the series before beginning game two. The Lions won 10-3 in the opening game completing the final two innings of game one and won 8-3 in game two.

Gainesville's Sam Carpenter pushed his record to 8-0 in game one of the doubleheader.

The Piedmont bats were hot from the start of game one with a pair of singles in the first inning. While it didn't produce runs, the second inning was a different story.

In the second inning, the Lions scored seven runs on seven hits and one error. Evan Meade began the scoring with a solo homerun to right center, his third homerun of the season. Beginning with Meade, eight straight batters reached.

The Hawks were able to put up a two-spot in the third inning, but those were the only runs they would manage off starter Carpenter. Carpenter pitched five innings allowing five hits, two runs, and struck out four.

The Lions continued to tack on runs with one in the fourth, sixth and seventh. Piedmont was also helped by a total of four Huntingdon errors to go along with 15 hits for the Green and Gold.

The final two innings of game one were completed on Friday after the game was suspended on Thursday after the seventh inning.

In game two, Piedmont once again got out in front early thanks to a two-out two-RBI single by Tyler Burdette. The 2-0 lead lasted until the third inning when the Hawks tied the contest on three singles and a walk in the frame.

Huntingdon took the lead in the fourth inning after a walk and an error put two in scoring position for Colton Clark. The lead was short lived as Piedmont matched the single run in the next inning after Burdette singled, stole second and scored on an error by the second baseman.

With the score tied at three, Piedmont matched their total with a three-spot in the sixth inning. The Lions scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings with one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Up next, Piedmont will take on Huntingdon in game three of the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
