Baseball: Gainesville's Carpenter continues to set records

MADISON, Ala. — Gainesville's Sam Carpenter continues to set records at Piedmont College. 

The Piedmont College baseball team picked up a pair of convincing wins Sunday over Edgewood College 13-5 and 12-2 as Carpenter added another record to his bio with a win in game one becoming the all-time leader in wins in Piedmont baseball history. 

Carpenter added another nine strikeouts to his season total going 7.0 IP allowing nine hits and two earned runs. Carpenter only allowed one walk with just four walks all season. 

Game one saw Piedmont total nine hits with Carter Ballstadt tallying three of those. Ballstadt had all extra-base hits with two triples and a double driving in four runs. There were also 11 walks issues to the Lions in game one. 

Game two saw the Lions have just seven hits but 19 walks were issued, a school-record number of walks in a single contest. No Lion had more than one hit in the game but Tyler Sheley  had a pair of RBI. Piedmont also had 13 strikeouts in the contest. 
 
TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont used big offensive innings to make a difference in both games scoring multiple runs in four of eight innings played in game one.
--Game two saw the Lions score 10 runs during the 5th-8th innings. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Ballstadt was 3-for-4 with a double, two triples, four RBI and three runs scored in game one. 
--Peyton Irvin moved to 3-0 on the season going 6.0 innings allowing seven hits and two earned runs. 
 
UP NEXT:
--Piedmont heads to Maryville to face the Scots over the weekend with first pitch on Friday at 7 p.m.
