The recently-concluded Georgia Legal Food Frenzy Food and Funds Drive provided the Gainesville-based Georgia Mountains Food Bank with $22,012 and 611 pounds of food donations.
The food drive is a collaboration of law firms and organizations across the state, and of those funds that went to the GMFB, $10,000 came from the Gainesville law firm of Whelchel, Dunlap, Jarrard & Walker, which was also the state's top giver for medium-sized firms (21-100 employees). The group has also placed first amongst all area firms for three consecutive years.
Meanwhile, the Gainesville-based firm of Stewart, Melvin & Frost was again second in donations raised in the area, and the Forsyth County firm of Jarrard & Davis placed third.
"We're so grateful for the support we receive from the legal community here in north Georgia the work and contributions of firms here in north Georgia and their commitment to combating hunger," Georgia Mountain Food Bank Director Kay Blackstock said. "We are actually one of the smaller food banks across the state, but our partnerships with area firms was in no way small, and we thank everyone who took part in the 2019 Legal Food Frenzy."
Statewide, this year proved a record-breaker for the campaign, as 193 law firms and legal organizations, representing more than 13,000 employees, raised $419,321 and 17,617 pounds of food during the 2019 campaign. This is the equivalent of 1.7 million meals for Georgia’s regional food banks and a 9.5 percent increase from last year.
