Forsyth Co. detective finds missing Cumming man dead at crash site near Lake Lanier

By Bryan Pirkle Reporter

A Forsyth County Sheriff's Detective searching for a missing person on Monday found the man dead inside a vehicle just off Ga. 400.

The county Sheriff's Office said Monday evening that Detective A. Miller had previously issued a lookout for Daniel Edward Harp, 25, before making the discovery. Miller found the crash site while using "cellphone technology."

"At approximately 3:30 p.m., Detective A. Miller located a vehicle, a 2012 Honda Civic, that had crashed into a wooded area off the shoulder of GA 400 southbound near the Lake Lanier Bridge," the department said in a statement sent to local media.

The vehicle was apparently being driven by Harp, a Cumming resident, at the time of the accident.

"Mr. Harp's vehicle had traveled off the west shoulder of Ga. 400 and down an embankment into a wooded area," the release said. "After striking several trees, the vehicle came to rest in the heavily wooded area."

The case is now being handled by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Traffic Specialist Unit and the Major Crime Unit.

No other information was released.
