North Georgia Tech announces new Electrical Line program offering

The Blairsville campus of North Georgia Technical College recently announced the addition of an Electrical Line program beginning in the spring.

The Electrical Line program is already offered on the Clarkesville campus, but students are typically put on a waiting list for nine to twelve months. School officials believe that offering the program on a second campus will allow more students to complete the program.

“Introducing the Electrical Line program at our Blairsville campus is going to provide more student access to one of our most popular programs,” NGTC Interim President Michele Shirley said in a statement Tuesday. “We are excited to offer this program to more students in our community.”

NGTC has been assisted in the creation of the program by Blue Ridge Mountain Electric Membership Corporation Interim Manager Erik Brinke, who has worked to provide materials and equipment for student learning. In addition, Union County Sole Commissioner Lamar Paris has provided space at the Blairsville Farmers’ Market where students can learn to drive electric line trucks.

“We are very thankful for Blue Ridge Mountain EMC’s partnership and commitment to this program,” said NGTC Vice President for Academic Affairs Mindy Glander. “Everyone is eager to enroll more students to provide a workforce in a field that is in such high demand.”

The Electrical Line program can be completed in less than eight weeks. Applications for the spring semester, which begins Thursday, Jan. 7, are being accepted through Thursday, Nov. 19. Students who need financial assistance may apply for scholarships from the NGTC Foundation through Tuesday, Nov. 24.
