Gainesville residents asked to bring garbage to the curb until further notice

By AccessWDUN Staff

Starting Monday, March 23, Gainesville residents will need to bring their garbage to the curbside for pickup.

The request comes from the Solid Waste Division of the city's Public Works Department as part of an ongoing effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A statement from the city issued Friday said the practice will "fall in line with social-distancing efforts, which will help the city protect both your family and Solid Waste employees by limiting the occurrences where staff has to enter your property."

Customers should bring household garbage to the curb no later than 7 a.m. on designated pickup days.

"The health and safety of our community and our staff is our highest priority," said Gainesville Public Works Director Chris Rotalsky. "We appreciate your help with these efforts to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Thank you for your understanding, patience and support.”

The request said if residents are unable to get garbage to the curb, then it can be placed in an obvious location on the driveway, visible from the street but away from the home.
