Chestatee's Shaun Conley is learning a tremendous amount about video conferencing during the COVID-19 school shutdown.
The War Eagles' head football coach says he's OK with technology but didn't know how useful the video conferencing apps would be until now.
"I've learned a tremendous amount about Zoom," he said. "The offensive coordinator at Army and he was talking about the same thing. He said he's now having three position meetings a day on Zoom."
The coronavirus has halted all high school sports and has spring football and maybe even summer workouts on the brink of cancellation.
But whatever transpires between now and then, Conley says he is staying in touch with his team.
"We've been trying to stay in touch with our players in several different ways," he said. "Hall County is fortunate in the fact that we have access to apps like Zoom. We can meet with our players even though it's online, but we can still see their faces and that type of stuff."
The War Eagles are at the mercy of the state and the Georgia High School Association when it comes to starting back. Right now, the GHSA has postponed all sports until April 24.
If the virus magically disappears between now and the end of April, spring football could happen.
"We're kind of just going along with what the state is saying," Conley said. "No one really knows what's happening. We're just trying to keep in touch with them."
Regardless of the start-back date, Conley and his coaching staff have set up workouts online.
"We've even put some videos out there," he said. "Coach (Jimbo) Hale put some workouts using book bags instead of weight -- trying to use creative ways for those that don't have weights. We're just trying to keep them active. We're trying to do the best we can with the situation."
