Weaver named White County Fire Chief; county honors Alexander, Newberry

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

White County Public Safety officials have sworn in a new fire chief while honoring two department veterans on their retirement.

During a ceremony Monday at the White County Emergency Operations Center, Public Safety Director David Murphy administered the oath of office to Assistant Fire Chief Seth Weaver, a full-time employee of the White County Fire Department since 2014. Prior to being hired, Weaver had served as a volunteer firefighter.

Weaver took the reins from Fire Chief Norman Alexander, who had served the county since 2005.

"Norman Alexander is a man of integrity," said Murphy. "He's a humble man, he's a man of integrity and he knows how to lead people."

Murphy also recognized firefighter/administrative assistant/public information officer Ana Newberry for her 17 years of service to the department.

"She has served the White County citizens and the fire department with everything she's got," Murphy said. She is the glue that has held the fire department together all these years."

Murphy said Newberry had worked for three fire chiefs during her tenure with the department, and she'll serve for a short time with Weaver until her final day on the job.
