DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County remained in the Region 7-3A title hunt with a 51-0 win over West Forsyth on Friday at Tiger Stadium.
After starting the season 0-3, the Tigers (4-3, 3-0 Region 7-3A) have won four straight and will travel to undefeated Cherokee Bluff next week in a massive region showdown. The winner of the game will be tied with North Hall, who is off next week, atop the standings.
West Hall, however, was eliminated from the playoff race with the loss.
The Spartans (2-5, 0-4 Region 7-3A) opened the game with an impressive drive, sprinting to the Dawson County 10-yard but stalled out and missed a short field goal try. After that, it was all Dawson County.
The Tigers scored 30 straight points to take a 30-0 halftime advantage. Jackson Grindle broke the goose egg on the board on a three-yard run with 5:55 to go in the opening period. The touchdown started the flurry with Zach Holtzclaw hitting Braedon Hubbard on a 36-yard pass, Dominic Leblanc nailed a 37-yard field goal, Conley Dyer dove in from one-yard out, and Bailey Dameron hauled in a 32-yard Holtzclaw pass to push the lead up, 30-0.
Dameron finished with six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. It was his seventh 100-yard receiving game. Holtzclaw was 12-of-23 for 223 yards and three scores. Dyer led the Tigers' rushing attack with 75 yards on six carries and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, West Hall finished with 138 total yards of offense.
Nick Strum was 5-of-16 for 80 yards, and Tilil Blackwell finished with eight carries for 21 yards.
In the second half, the Tigers added three scores. Holtzclaw tossed his third touchdown to Zach Pagel, Davis Glass rushed in from a yard out, and Walker Massey picked up a blocked punt for a touchdown.
