Fire destroys Buford automotive business

A fire in Buford Wednesday morning heavily damaged an automotive business. The automotive shop at 1450 Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Buford was fully involved in flames by the time fire crews arrived.

The 9-1-1 call came in around 9:42 a.m. when fire crews responded. The 3-bay automotive shop was already in flames and threatened an adjacent building which houses offices. The fire had spread to the attic of that building by the time that crews were able to deploy attack lines. First crews had to determine that everyone was out of the building.

It took fire services an extended amount of time to douse the fire due to the vehicles, oil, and other automotive fluids in the building. They were on scene for many hours and it was quite some time before being able to consider the fire “under control.” Over seven firetrucks, 4 engine trucks and 3 ladder trucks, were on scene, along with multiple other emergency vehicles and crews. Peachtree Industrial Boulevard had to be closed in both directions due to a water supply line that had to be laid across the roadway.

Members from the department’s Hazardous Materials Team were on scene and worked to control the runoff of motor oil and other automotive fluids, preventing the substances from entering storm drains.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Fire investigators have initially been able to rule out any suspicious activity as the cause of the fire, but due to the extensive damage, the exact origin of the fire has not been determined. The Gwinnett Police Aviation Unit provided support to fire investigators by deploying a drone to help get a better view of the scene.

Original story: Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Buford is currently closed in both directions due to a business fire.

According to information from Gwinnett Fire & Emergency Services, firefighters responded to the business at 1450 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard NE at 9:42 a.m. As of this report, crews are still working to bring the blaze under control and have both sides of the road closed to access a fire hydrant across the road from the business.

No injuries have been reported.
