Charges expected after East Hall High crossing guard hit by car

Charges are pending against the driver who reportedly struck and seriously injured a crossing guard near East Hall High School Friday morning. 

The Georgia State Patrol said the collision was reported at 8:04 a.m. at the intersection of East Hall Road and East Hall Drive. 

Troopers who investigated the crash said Lester Harris, 70, of Gainesville was directing traffic in the school zone. They said the driver of a passenger vehicle, Leroy Trendale Macon, 20, of Gainesville, was traveling northbound on East Hall Road and failed to obey Harris' directions in the school zone.

Macon's vehicle struck Harris. 

Troopers said drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.

A crossing guard was injured when he was hit by a car Friday morning near East Hall High School.

Hall County Schools Spokesman Stan Lewis said the accident happened at East Hall Drive and East Hall Road.

"I'm getting reports the driver of the vehicle may have been distracted," said Lewis.

"The crossing guard suffered some injuries, some broken bones and fractures, family has been contacted and we believe he is going to be ok."

Lewis also said no students were involved in the incident.

Hall County Dispatch reported an incident in that area to WDUN around 8:30 a.m.
