Vandals spray paint graffiti around YMCA day camp facility in Forsyth County

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is investigating a case of vandalism at YMCA Camp Eagle Point on Lake Lanier.

A report from the sheriff's office indicated camp staff called authorities Monday, July 5, and deputies responded to the scene on Turner Road just after 7:30 p.m. The reporting officer said he found spray paint graffiti around the facility.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta released a statement about the incident on July 6.

"At some point over the weekend between Friday evening and Monday morning, the 5th of July, vandals spray painted crude and hateful words and phrases on fences, pavements, bathroom structures and a few pieces of equipment at the camp," the statement said. "The imagery was crude and not consistent with the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility."

The statement did not give information on the nature of the offensive language. The statement said camp staff painted over the graffiti once the report was filed with the sheriff's office. Children were able to continue camp activities as scheduled.

The sheriff's office report estimated the damage at around $1,000.

According to the Camp Eagle Point Facebook page, the facility offers day camp for children ages 6 to 13.
