Football: Chestatee names Stuart Cunningham head coach

By AccessWDUN Staff

Stuart Cunningham has found a new home in Sardis.

The 34-year coaching vet was named the fifth head football coach at Chestatee High School on Wednesday, ending the month-long search to replace long-time coach Shaun Conley.

Conley retired after the 2022 season.

Chestatee athletics director Matt Stowers made the announcement today.

“I don’t think you can find many better men than Stuart Cunningham,” Stowers said in a statement. “And you would be hard-pressed to find someone with more football knowledge. He is a proven winner that will put our kids in the best situations to become successful in everything they do. I have no doubt that Coach Cunningham will put a great product on the field this fall, and he will have our kids prepared to make playoff runs for years to come. Chestatee is the place to be for kids that want to have an amazing high school football experience!”

Cunningham is no stranger to Hall County football. He spent 10 years at North Hall leading the Trojans' defense and was a defensive position coach at Habersham Central last season.

Cunningham has spent most of his career as an assistant but was named head coach at his alma mater, Habersham Central, in 2005 and left in 2011.

He guided the Raiders to a 6-5 record in 2011 and a first-round Class 4A state playoff berth at head coach.
