City officials in Sugar Hill recently met with dozens of elementary students from Gwinnett County Public Schools to teach them about upcoming city projects and invite their feedback for its upcoming comprehensive plan.
The day was part of Sugar Hill's "Envision 100" initiative and saw around 50 students from nearby Sugar Hill, Sycamore and White Oak Elementary Schools attend at the Eagle Theatre.
A release from the school system said the children were asked what they envision the city being like in the year 2039, which is the goal year of the upcoming comprehensive plan.
“It was amazing to see students learning about the rich history of Sugar Hill while eagerly embracing the opportunity to voice their visions for future enhancements," Lanier Cluster Superintendent Clifton Alexander said. “This day of learning and leading allowed Lanier cluster students to walk away knowing they play a critical role in creating a vibrant Sugar Hill community where they can learn, live, and play.”
The goal of Envision 100 is to engage the community in discussions about what the city will look like for its 100th birthday in the year 2039. The comprehensive plan is expected to be finalized in February of 2024.
