Carnesville man arrested following chase through Northeast Georgia

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A motor vehicle pursuit through two counties leads to the arrest of a Carnesville man by law enforcement Tuesday night.

Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of 34-year old Robert Lee Smith just before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday after the suspect, wanted in Franklin County on outstanding warrants, led Hart County Police on a pursuit into Lavonia, before GSP was called to assist.

Smith's 2006 Volkswagen Jetta reportedly struck a structure's concrete stairs along East Main Street before continuing to lead police in a chase, until GSP troopers pit maneuvered Smith's vehicle into a brick wall and arrested him on felony fleeing, reckless driving and DUI charges.

The GSP report says there were no injuries during the pursuit and subsequent arrest.
