A homeowner was taken to a local hospital Monday after a fire destroyed a home in Baldwin.
Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore said the fire was reported at around 4:30 p.m. at an Alto address on Mallard Pond Circle in Baldwin.
“We got the call for a residential fire with mutual aid from the county,” Baldwin Assistant Fire Chief Shaun Benfield said. “Station 12 arrived on scene. They were the first ones on the scene.”
Habersham County Emergency Services Station 12 Lt. Brandon Fields handed command to Benefield upon his arrival on the scene.
“We had a fully involved structure on the upstairs,” Benfield said. “We were able to make entry and knock the fire down from the inside. All personnel are safe and accounted for. We did rescue four dogs.”
Units with the Baldwin Fire Department, Habersham County Emergency Services, the Cornelia Fire Department, the Baldwin Police Department and the Alto Police Department responded to the blaze.
Benefield said One of the homeowners was injured and she was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for care. Her condition is unclear at this time.
“The structure is pretty much a total loss,” Benfield said.
Moore said Command at the scene was terminated at 7:48 p.m.
At this time the cause of the fire is undetermined.
