The Georgia Department of Transportation has started construction on a new interchange at Interstate 85 and McGinnis Ferry Road in Suwanee.
The City of Suwanee said in a press release the interchange project includes the development of a new bridge and approaches over I-85.
The project is a half-diamond interchange format, meaning ramps will only be installed facing one direction, not both directions, and in this case south-facing.
"The interchange will help alleviate the Lawrenceville-Suwanee exit for drivers commuting back and forth from Atlanta on I-85," the release said. "Suwanee drivers wanting to travel north to Buford or beyond would still need to use the Lawrenceville-Suwanee exit."
Norcross-based CMES, Inc. was awarded a $24.8 million contract to lead the construction of the interchange. The project is expected to be completed in early 2026.
