According to Lt. Shaun Barnett with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Ovita Thornton reportedly crashed her car on West Hancock Avenue at North Harris Street just after 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Thornton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Barnett said the crash report was not yet available.
Jail records show Thornton, 70, was booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail at about 8 p.m. and bonded out at $1850 a little under three hours later.
