Crystal Hendrix has announced her candidacy for one of two Pendergrass City Council seats that will be up for grabs in June.
Hendrix will be running for Seat 6 in the special election on June 20. The election in the western Jackson County city was approved after Mayor Monk Tolbert died and council members Tawnia Justice and Harlan Robinson resigned.
Hendrix attended high school in Rockdale County in the 1990's before getting degrees in social science and radiologic technology from Lanier Technical College in Gainesville. She worked as a deputy clerk for Rockdale County Superior Court for more than 15 years before working in healthcare.
"I know there's a lot of neighborhoods that are popping up, a lot of apartments and I know some people in the community are not happy to see those things, so I would like to take into consideration their feelings and concerns about that," Hendrix said. "Our schools are overwhelmed right now, especially in our little town, so I just really want to focus on how we grow and where we grow and if we can support that growth in our community," she continued.
Hendrix moved to Pendergrass in 2019. A statement from Hendrix says if elected she will look to "be a voice and face of local Government transparency."
