The City of Gainesville has announced they will be closing Dixon Drive between Wessell Road and Bradford Street to nonresidents during the day on Monday.
The closures will last from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are meant to help expedite the replacement of old water and sewer mains.
This is phase one of a multiphase action plan and will last for nearly four weeks the city said. Phase two will call for the closure of Dixon Drive between Bradford Street and Holly Drive.
The city recommends the following detours to bypass the Dixon Drive closure:
- If turning from Green Street onto Holly Drive > Piedmont Road > Bradford Street > Stillwood Drive > Wessell Road > Dixon Drive OR Holly Drive > Piedmont Road > Bradford Street > Ridgewood Avenue > Wilshire Road
- If turning from Green Street onto Ridgewood Avenue > Wilshire Road OR Ridgewood Avenue > Bradford Street > Stillwood Drive > Wessell Road > Dixon Drive
Authorities urge motorists to drive carefully and watch for construction workers and equipment.
