13 community foundations from across Georgia meet in Gainesville

The North Georgia Community Foundation recently hosted its first-ever philanthropy-focused summit that attracted 65 participants from 13 different community foundations in Georgia.

NGCF hosted the Georgia Community Foundations Summit in mid-July over the course of two days, attracting 65 representatives from community foundations across the entire state. The sessions were said to have “facilitated the exchange of best practices, innovative strategies and novel approaches to philanthropic endeavors,” according to NGCF Vice President Megan Martin.

“We are honored we had the opportunity to host this inaugural event and facilitate such an impactful time for shared learning and connection,” NGCF President and CEO Michelle Prater said. “The summit was designed to create an environment where team members can engage in meaningful discussions, learn from each other's successes and challenges, and ultimately enhance the impact of their respective programs. While each community foundation is different in some ways, we are all on the mission to uplift and enrich our communities through philanthropy.”

While many participants were able to hone their philanthropic skills, they also left the two-day event with a host of new connections.

NGCF was reportedly founded in 1985 with the main focus of strengthening communities in the North Georgia region. As of Dec. 2022, they have provided $134.6 million in grants and scholarships. In 2022, NGCF invested approximately $11.5 million into the community specifically through grants to various nonprofits.

In 2022 the foundation provided 242 scholarships, according to data found on the NGCF website.
