Lawrenceville man dead after being pulled from Lake Lanier at Van Pugh Park

A Lawrenceville man who was recovered from Lake Lanier Monday evening died later that day, according to authorities.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday morning the man was identified as Brayan Tarasona, 22, of Lawrenceville.

Hall County Fire Rescue responded to Van Pugh Park off of Gaines Ferry Road for reports of a drowning after 6:30 Monday night. Crews were able to quickly locate Tarasona via sonar. A Remotely Operated Vehicle was deployed and was then used to recover the victim to the surface. Tarasona was transferred to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition.

He was pronounced dead just before 8:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Investigators said Tarasona and two other people had gone to the park to swim. Witnesses said the victim swam out into deep water, and as he was attempting to return to shore, he went under water and did not resurface.

The victim's body was transported for autopsy.

A man is in critical condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a waterway incident at Lake Lanier's Van Pugh Park Monday evening.

Hall County Fire Rescue responded to Van Pugh Park off of Gaines Ferry Road for reports of a drowning after 6:30 Monday night. Hall County Fire Rescue arrived and dropped MR-1 into the water and quickly located the victim via sonar.

Once the victim was located, the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) was deployed and was then used to recover the victim to the surface. The victim was transferred to an awaiting ambulance in critical condition.

The victim is a young adult male who is being treated at NGMC Gainesville. More information on the patient and their status will be released later today by the Hall County Sheriff's office according to their release Monday night.
