Gwinnett Co. officers use K-9, helicopter units to locate critically missing man

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

A critically missing man in Gwinnett County was located with the help of officers, a tracking K-9, and a police helicopter.

On Oct. 2, officers responded to Breckinridge Boulevard in Duluth after a woman called to report a family member had run away from her.

She told police that he was a 60-year-old man who suffered from mental disabilities which prevented him from being able to care for himself.

Officers searched the area and requested the helicopter. When the helicopter arrived, they found a person in a wooded area nearby.

An officer responded to the area and located the man, who became scared and ran further into the woods. Another officer with his tracking dog responded to the scene and began searching the woods.

During the search, the K-9 discovered the missing man who got scared again and jumped into a creek bed.

He got stuck and needed help getting out.

Cpl. William Webb removed some of his equipment and went down into the creek bed to help the man out.

Webb was able to wrap an extra dog leash around the man’s waist so the officers could lift him out to safety.

The man was reunited with his family and did not suffer significant injuries.
