White County certifies 14 new volunteers for their Emergency Response Team

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

White County Public Safety’s Emergency Management Division and CERT Program recently celebrated the graduation of its latest class of CERT Basic Training participants with a ceremony held at the White County Senior Center.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trains community volunteers to assist in responding to disasters and other emergency events. Over a 10-week course period, participants gain valuable knowledge and experience in training over man-made and natural incidents through practical exercises.

White County's Public Safety Department announced on Monday that 14 volunteers have benefitted from this training program and graduated from their most recent course.  The graduates include:

Chris Dewalt
Charles Dewalt
Brett Ferguson
Paul Fischer
Oscar Ferrari
Randy Freel
Edward Lazzarini
John Rankin
Adam Reed
David Strawn
Taylor Taylor
Megan Wade
Cindy Wells
John Sluder

David Murphy, Director of Public Safety, encouraged the graduates to continue their involvement in the program. “The CERT Program strengthens our community’s ability to respond in times of need. You are now part of a critical network of volunteers who step up when it matters most. Use this training to make a difference and help ensure our county remains a safe and prepared place for everyone.”

The ceremony concluded with certificates presented to the graduates, marking their official entry into the CERT Program and White County’s emergency preparedness efforts.
