Class A D1 girls semifinals: Galloway pulls away in 4th to knock off Rabun County

By AccessWDUN Staff

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Galloway slowly pulled away in the second half to knock off Rabun County 60-45 in the semifinals of the Class A Division 1 tournament at Georgia College on Friday.

The fourth-ranked Lady Wildcats (24-7) committed 12 turnovers in the second half, allowing the No. 2-ranked Scots (19-10) to build a double-digit lead.

Georgia Tech-commit Tianna Thompson poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Lady Scots. Her sister, Taryn Thompson, added 15.

Trailing 28-22 at the half, the second half started a bit rough for both squads, with five combined turnovers.

Despite the turnovers, the Lady Wildcats kept it close in third, trailing 30-25 with 5:45 left off an Ellie Southards three-point play.

However, Galloway had an answer just about every time in the second half to keep Rabun County from getting any closer.

In the fourth, Lucy Hood cut the Scots’ lead back to five points, 42-37, with a jumper, but Galloway behind Tianna and Teryn Thompson pushed the lead to 10 points 47-37 — the largest of the half — with 6:25 left in the game.

Hood reeled off back-to-back baskets to slash the lead to 47-41 with just under five minutes left. That was the closest the Lady Wildcats would get in the final five minutes of the game.

Hood led the Lady Wildcats with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Southards chipped in 15 points.
