Report: Rabun's Charlie Woerner signs with Falcons

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Charlie Woerner is coming home, or at least as close as he can in the NFL.

Multiple sources are reporting that the former Rabun County standout has signed a four-year, $12 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and NBC Sports, among others, reported the signing late Monday afternoon, his agent, Alex Essex, announced.

Woerner, 26, spent the past four seasons backing up George Kittle for the San Francisco 49ers.

Woerner played for Rabun County from 2012 to 2015 and helped lead the Wildcats to 34 wins, two region titles, and the program’s first Elite 8 appearance (2015) since 1998. Woerner signed with Georgia out of high school and played until the 2019 season. He was later drafted by San Francisco in 2020 with the 190th overall pick in the sixth round.

In his four years with the 49ers, Woerner has been used primarily as a blocking tight end. He has 11 catches for 120 yards and no touchdowns so far.

With wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts as the Falcons' main weapons, Woerner may be more used as a blocker unless the Falcons are not done making moves.

But Atlanta also signed Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins on Monday, so changes could be underway off Falcons Parkway.
