Gwinnett County School Board approves Executive Directors of Teaching and Learning

The Gwinnett County Board of Education approved Thursday the appointments of two new Executive Directors of Teaching and Learning. 

Jon M. Valentine has been named the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for Enrichment and Support Programs. Valentine has served as the GCPS Director of Foreign Language in the Division of Teaching and Learning since 2013. 

Before serving Gwinnett Public Schools, Valentine previously worked as a Manager for World Languages and Global Initiatives with the Georgia Department of Education, as well as a teacher with Fulton County Schools. 

Valentine has received multiple degrees from Miami University, Georgia State University and the University of Wyoming. 

Anna Mary W. Smith has been named Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for Core Programs. Smith currently serves as the Director of Language Arts and Literacy. 

Smith has served in multiple roles within the school system since 2000, including as a Director of Staff Development for the Division of Curriculum and Instructional Support, an Instructional Coach for the Division of Curriculum and Instructional Support, and as a Teacher at Walnut Grove Elementary School. 

Smith has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia as well as credentials from Columbia University and Miami University.
