Gainesville to honor Jeremy Medina with memorial scholarship

By AccessWDUN Staff

Gainesville City Schools is launching a new scholarship in memory of Jeremy Medina.

Medina passed away in December following a tragic November 20 accident at the Gainesville High School batting cages. He was practicing at the facility when he was accidentally struck in the head by a baseball bat, leading to extensive injuries.

On Monday, the school system announced the new scholarship, the Jeremy Medina Memorial Scholarship, on its Facebook page.

"Following a tragic loss, the Gainesville High School and Georgia baseball community unite to honor Jeremy Medina, a beloved senior known for his vibrant spirit," the release said. "Jeremy's passing, due to a batting cage accident, leaves a significant void in our hearts and halls. To honor Jeremy's memory and continue his legacy, we're launching the Jeremy Medina Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support a graduating Gainesville High School senior who embodies Jeremy's qualities of hard work, character, athleticism and academic excellence."

The Gainesville High School Dugout Club has launched a fundraising raffle to help fund the scholarship. Each contribution will go to "preserving Jeremy's legacy for future Gainesville High School students."

Tickets to win a Red Kawasaki Brute Force 300 ATV are $25 each, or you can purchase five tickets for $100. You can buy tickets HERE.

The drawing will be held at a community event on April 15th.
