Gwinnett County Police officers visit National Center for Civil and Human Rights Museum

By AccessWDUN Staff

Officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department recently visited the National Center for Civil and Human Rights Museum as part of their mentorship program.

Gwinnett County officials said experienced officers can serve as mentors and guide future department leaders in the program.

Mentors share their knowledge, skills and experience to help mentees navigate challenges they may face in their careers.

West Precinct Major Jordan Griffin organized the visit to the museum for mentors and mentees as part of the program.

“This was an opportunity for our officers to see civil and human rights issues through the eyes of the community that we serve. We discussed the recency of the events of the Civil Rights Movement and ongoing human rights issues today. With the international diversity of Gwinnett County, it is important to understand that these global issues affect people right here in our community,” Griffin said.

The program was enacted in 2022 by Chief of Police James D. McClure.
