Lawrenceville suspect wanted on outstanding warrants tracked down by GCPD K9

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

A Lawrenceville man wanted on outstanding warrants, including battery, was tracked down and arrested Saturday after he ran from Gwinnett County Police Officers.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Royal Cove in Lawrenceville on July 29 after the ex-girlfriend of Javaris Virgin, 30, reported he injured her while the two were having an argument. The victim told authorities she had asked Virgin to return her car after the couple had broken up. Virgin allegedly refused to give the car back, and grabbed the victim’s wrists, leaving visible injuries. He also broke her phone, according to a release from GCPD.

Some of the interaction was captured on video by a witness, causing officers to take warrants for Virgin for battery, criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree, simple battery, and cruelty to children in the 3rd degree. Virgin left the area before the police arrived that day and was not arrested.

Police were called again to the residence on Aug.10 after the same victim reported Virgin returned to the home and punched her during an argument. Virgin was still on scene when officers arrived, and they attempted to arrest him for the July 29 incident.  When officers tried to take Virgin into custody, he ran from them, resulting in a short foot chase. The chase ended when Virgin disappeared into a woodline.

Sgt. Doan and K9 Nitro responded to the scene and were able to track Virgin through multiple different properties. Sgt. Doan and K9 Nitro later located Virgin hiding from police in a group of bushes. Virgin was arrested and charged with additional charges of false imprisonment and obstruction of police officers.
