Boys basketball: NHall, Bluff, Hab Central, EHall roll to big region wins; GHS falls to Milton

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — North Hall rebounded from a rough loss to GAC last week with a big win over Dawson County in Region 6-3A play on Tuesday.

The Trojans got 28 points from Cole Hulsey in a 92-64 rout of the Tigers at Lynn Cottrell Court.

Micah Jimerson added 20 points, and Gunner Spain added 18 for North Hall (10-6, 3-2 Region 6-3A), who stayed in the top four in the region standings.

It was the second straight region loss for Dawson County (4-12, 1-4 Region 6-3A).

Both teams will be back in action in region play on Thursday. North Hall will next play host to second-place Lumpkin County, while Dawson County will play host to White County.


HABERSHAM CENTRAL 83,
APALACHEE 54

The Class 5A fourth-ranked Raiders rolled to their fourth straight win and stayed unbeaten in Region 8-5A.

The Raiders (15-2, 4-0 Region 8-5A) led from nearly start to finish and led fifth-ranked Winder-Barrow (15-2, 3-1 Region 8-5A) by a game in the standings.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 67,
WEST HALL 35

The Class 3A No. 1-ranked Bears continued their hot streak with a lopsided Region 8-3A win at home on Tuesday.

Boston Kersh poured in 26 points to pace Cherokee Bluff (16-1, 2-0 Region 8-3A), which has now won 10 straight games, including tournament championships in Lanierland and the Bluff Holiday Tournament.

Tyler Underwood and Ben Craig had 8 points apiece, and Cooper Glover finished with 7 points for the Bears.

Troy Smith led West Hall (6-11, 0-2 Region 8-3A) with 13 points.

Bluff next will travel to No. 3 East Hall on Thursday in a monster showdown for the top spot in the early region standings.


MILTON 60,
GAINESVILLE 50

No. 8 Gainesville went toe-to-toe with the top-ranked Milton on the road Tuesday, but a three-point second quarter was the difference. 

Milton (10-3, 5-0 Region 7-5A) takes control of the region standings with the win. Gainesville (11-6, 4-1 Region 7-5A) falls to second. 

Both teams struggled early in the second quarter, scoring only seven combined points in the first 4:30, but the Eagles went on a 13-0 run to grab a 29-23 halftime lead. Daniel Ogunyemi was key in the quarter, scoring eight of his 14 points.

In the third, Gainesville opened the quarter on an 8-4 run on baskets from Caden Jackson and Charlie Gersmehl to tie the game. Jackson scored a bucket with 4:44 left to cut the lead to 33-31, and Gersmehl added two foul shots with 4:22 left to tie it 35-35. However, the Eagles, sparked by Dixon and Geisler, finished the quarter on an 11-0 run to take the lead 46-35 at the end of three. 

In the fourth, Jackson hit three straight 3-pointers to close the gap, 46-44 with 5:34 remaining. But, again, the Eagles silenced the comeback, finishing the game on a 14-6 spurt. 

Jackson led Gainesville with 16 points. Brandon Nelson had eight points and nine rebounds, and Gersmehl added eight. 

Ogunyemi added 15 rebounds to finish the night with a double-double. Solomon Bratten finished with 10 points and five boards. 


EAST HALL 74, 
MONROE AREA 63

Chasen Jones scored 20 points, and Jordan Richerson had 18 to lead the Vikings (13-2, 2-0 Region 8-3A) past Monroe Area on the road Tuesday.

The Vikings' big first quarter ended up being the difference in the win, as the Hurricanes outscored the Vikings 55-52 the rest of the way.

Jamarcus Harrison finished with 15, and Bray Langston added 11 points. 

The win sets up a massive showdown against region co-leader Cherokee Bluff on Thursday. You can hear the action live on AM 550 & FM 102.9 WDUN.
