COVINGTON, Ga. — In a battle for first place in Region 8-5A, Jackson County took a huge 57-51 road win over Alcovy on Tuesday night.
It was the second straight win for the Lady Panthers (12-6, 5-0 Region 8-5A), who have won more games so far this season (12) than they did in the last two seasons combined (11).
Jackson County, which is the only unbeaten team left in the region, is off until traveling to Loganville next Tuesday in another region showdown.

The Lady Bears also stayed unbeaten in Region 8-3A with a win at home on Tuesday.
Claire Carlson led Bluff (13-4, 2-0 Region 8-3A) with 17 points. Bristol Kersh added 11 points and 7 steals, and Andi Hall also had 11 points for the Lady Bears.
Brooklyn Phillips had 9 points and 5 assists and Emery Jones 9 points and 7 rebounds. Audrey Graham and Halle Wilson each had 7 points and combined for 7 rebounds for Bluff.
The Lady Bears have a huge region road tilt on Thursday at East Hall.

The Class 3A second-ranked Lady Dragons stayed tied atop Region 8-3A with a huge road win on Tuesday.
Jefferson (12-3, 2-0 Region 8-3A) also ran its win streak to nine straight with the victory.
The Lady Dragons next will play host to Monroe Area on Thursday in 8-3A action.
EAST HALL 54,
MONROE AREA 35
The Lady Vikings got their first Region 8-3A win of the season on the road.
Kaylana Curry (14 points) and Terriah Watkins (13 points) gave East Hall (8-6, 1-1 Region 8-3A) solid scoring inside and out as the pair nearly outscored the Lady Hurricanes (6-9, 0-2 Region 8-3A) by themselves.
Haley Barton added 8 points for the Lady Vikings.
East Hall will begin a crucial two-game stretch against Class 3A No. 3 Cherokee Bluff on Thursday and then No. 2 Jefferson next Tuesday looking to climb to the top of the standings.

The Lady Lightning dropped a region matchup on Tuesday.
The loss was the first in the region for LCA (9-8, 1-1 GPAS 1-2A).
Emma Flowers led LCA with 10 points. Adelyn Gough had 9 and Ellie Roberts 7 for the Lady Lightning.
LCA will next travel to Peachtree Academy on Thursday.

GAINESVILLE 31
Milton outscored Gainesville 35-14 in the second half to pull away at home on Tuesday.
Gainesville (9-6, 2-3 Region 7-5A) trailed 9-7 after the first quarter and trailed 19-17 with 1:36 left in the half, but Milton finished the second on a 6-0 run to take the lead into the locker room.
The Eagles (10-5, 4-0 Region 7-5A) pushed ahead in the final quarter behind three 3-pointers from Aaleanna Milord to take a 47-29 lead and never looked back.
Milord finished with nine points. Deyia Davis led the Eagles with 12 points, and Caroline Young had 11.
Julia Payne led Gainesville with five points.
