A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for much of northern and central Georgia for the start of the upcoming weekend.
The National Weather Service (NWS) website is showing models where a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and possible snowfall could potentially accumulate in portions of the North Georgia mountains, starting sometime on Friday morning, January 9, 2025, through as late as early morning Saturday, January 10.
The NWS also shows a slight chance for potential ice conditions to form in areas north of Atlanta, with a greater chance of some icing conditions further north toward North Carolina and Tennessee, as of reports on Wednesday morning, January 8.
