Some schools and municipal offices to remain closed after Winter Storm Watch

After a Winter Storm Watch Tuesday and Wednesday and below-freezing temperatures, many schools and businesses are returning for Thursday.

Those confirmed returning include Hall County Schools, Gainesville City Schools, and North Georgia Technical College.

A list of schools closed tomorrow is below:

  • Banks County Schools: School-from-home for Thursday

  • Barrow County Schools: Closed for Thursday

  • Commerce City Schools: Delayed opening by two hours for Thursday

  • Georgia Gwinnett College: Virtual day for Thursday

  • Gwinnett County Public Schools: Digital Learning Day for Thursday

  • Jackson County Schools: Closed for Thursday

  • Jefferson City Schools: Delayed opening by two hours for Thursday

A list of municipalites closed or operating on a delayed opening for Thursday:

Atlanta Botanical Garden (both Midtown and Gainesville locations) - Delayed opening on Thursday, Jan. 23 until 12:00 noon because of weather conditions. 

Barrow County offices - Most will open at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.  The Barrow County Senior Center will remain closed all day Thursday. 

  • Delayed opening includes Barrow County's Administrative Offices, courts, animal shelter and Victor Lord Park facilities.

Gwinnett County offices will open for normal business hours. Exceptions are outlined below:

  • Trials and hearings are cancelled and the Gwinnett County Courthouse within the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center will delay opening until 10 a.m.
  • The Clerk of Court’s office will delay opening until 10 a.m. Electronic filing of pleadings remains available 24/7 through eFile GA.
  • All Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner’s Offices will delay opening until 12:30 p.m. Renewal kiosks and online services remain available.
  • Senior centers closed The Buford, Centerville, Lawrenceville and Norcross Senior Centers and Snellville Satellite Senior Center will be closed to the public. 
  • Solid waste collection may be delayed We ask residents to place their trash and recycle out on their regularly scheduled day. If it is not serviced that day, it will be the next day. All trash and recycling is expected to be serviced by Saturday, Jan. 25.
  • Warming Stations open from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Thursday, Jan. 23. If someone you know needs a place to rest and eat a meal, please find a station near you. For more details, visit GwinnettCounty.com/WarmingStations or call 770-822-8850.

Hall County Parks and Leisure Services public input meeting has been postponed to Wednesday, Feb. 5, due to winter weather impacts
