The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved three initiatives during its Jan. 21 meeting.
According to a release from the county, the initiatives included projects to upgrade intersections and an animal welfare facility in the area.
The board approved a $1.18 million contract with Azimuth Contractors LLC to improve the intersection of East Park Place Blvd at Stone Mountain Hwy. The project includes constructing triple left turn lanes on the northbound approach, upgrading traffic signals and replacing sidewalks and curb and gutters. The upgrades are funded by the SPLOST program and aim to enhance traffic flow in one of Gwinnett’s busiest areas.
The board also voted to approve a project to construct new sidewalks along the west side of Braselton Hwy., connecting Meridian Drive to Ironwood Briar Drv. A $1.23 million contract was awarded to Vertical Earth Inc. and will be funded by the county’s 2017 SPLOST.
Additionally, the Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center will receive a 3,520-square- foot expansion to increase animal intake, adoption services and training spaces. The project will also convert the existing K-9 unit building into specialized high-risk and quarantine isolation kennels and expand parking at the center.
A $4.4 million contract was awarded to Place Services, Inc. and will be funded by the 2023 SPLOST.
