Gainesville Mayor Sam Couvillon’s political ambitions now include the Nation’s Capitol.
A member of Couvillon’s team confirmed to AccessWDUN News that he will be throwing his hat in the ring for Georgia’s 9th Congressional District. The next Congressional election is slated for November 2026.
Couvillon will run in the Republican primary against current 9th District Representative Andrew Clyde. Clyde beat challenger Tambrei Cash in the 2024 election.
“The hardworking men and women of (District 9) deserve a proven conservative voice in Congress who will deliver results,” Couvillon said in a press release. “While most politicians are more concerned with making a point than getting things done, I’ll be ready on Day 1 to support President (Donald) Trump’s agenda, secure our southern border, tackle inflation and the rising cost of living, and stand with our farmers and small businesses.”
Couvillon has been mayor since 2022. He was first elected to the Gainesville City Council in 2013.
A website for Couvillon’s Congressional run has been created.
