BUFORD, Ga. — Both Buford teams can essentially put wraps on the No. 1 seeds from Region 8-6A on Wednesday, playing host to Mill Creek in what should be a pair of contentious rivalry and region showdowns at The Buford Arena.
The Lady Hawks (13-5, 7-2 Region 8-6A) handed the Lady Wolves (18-2, 8-1 Region 8-6A) their only region loss so far, 60-51, back on Dec. 16 in Hoschton. This is their fifth of six straight road games and they are just 4-4 in true road games this season.
A second win for Mill Creek would give them the head-to-head tiebreakers with two games left for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament. Buford is 8-1 at home this season.
The Buford boys won a nail-biting 48-47 win over the Hawks in their first showdown in Hoschton.
It will be a tough assignment for Mill Creek (15-7, 7-2 Region 8-6A). The Wolves come in riding a season-long 9-game win streak and are a perfect 6-0 at The Buford Arena this season. The Hawks are just 3-3 in true road games. A win for Buford would essentially clinch the top seed with just two games left in the regular season.
Meanwhile, the Chestatee girls will see if they can continue their hot play, playing host to White County at the Lynn Cottrell Center in a showdown for second place in Region 6-3A.
The Lady War Eagles (15-6, 7-3 Region 6-3A) have won three straight to climb into third place while the Lady Warriors (16-5, 8-2 Region 6-3A) saw their win streak snapped on Tuesday at home against Dawson County.
White County can all but seal the No. 2 seed with a win. The Lady Warriors beat Chestatee 59-50 in early December in their first meeting.
