Region 6-3A boys basketball: North Hall, Lumpkin County advance to semifinals

JASPER, Ga. — North Hall didn’t take control until midway through the third quarter, boosted by a 15-2 run, en route to a 97-69 win over Dawson County in the Region 6-3A tournament at Pickens High School on Wednesday. 

The Tigers opened the game on a 9-2 run and led 21-20 after the first quarter. Dawson County also led 30-27 with 5:45 left in the first half. Then, the Trojans started to run, sprinting to a 48-38 halftime advantage. 

The late second-quarter run continued into the third quarter, where the Trojans found themselves up 63-45 with 4:24 to go, thanks to the hot hands of Micah Jimerson, Cole Hulsey, and Gunner Spain. Jimerson finished with a game-high 29 points, while Spain had 26 and Hulsey 22. 

Landon Lee was key in the Tigers' big first quarter, scoring 11 of his team-high 23 points in the first quarter. 
Kylon Driver added 14 points. 

The Trojans (16-10) will play the winner of the Pickens-Johnson game on Friday at Pickens.  

Dawson County finishes the season with an 8-18 overall record. 


LUMPKIN COUNTY 61, 
WHITE COUNTY 56

Lumpkin County used a 9-0 run in the third quarter to take the lead and held off White County the rest of the way to win, 61-56, in the first round of the Region 6-3A tournament at Pickens High on Wednesday. 

White County didn’t make it easy for the Indians, opening the game on a 7-0 run, leading 16-12 at the end of the first, and holding off Lumpkin in the second quarter to grab a 32-27 halftime lead. 

The Warriors came out cold in the second half, allowing the Indians to rally head via the 9-0 run, 34-32. White County’s first points in the third frame came with 3:12 left as the Indians slowly took a 10-point lead. 

In the fourth, the Warriors found a rhythm, and Tripp Nix’s 3-pointer pulled them within two points, 58-56, with 26 seconds remaining. But the Warriors couldn’t get any closer in the final 20 seconds. 

Blayne Gunter led the Warriors with a game-high 22 points. 

The Indians had four guys in double figures: Cal Faulkner led the way with 16 points. Landon Pierce added 15, Keiwhan Gallagher had 12, and Jackson Pulley chipped in 10 points. 

Lumpkin County (18-8) will play GAC in the semifinals on Friday. White County finishes the season 5-21.
