BUFORD, Ga. — Buford's run in the Class 6A girls playoffs came to a disappointing end Tuesday night.
The Lady Wolves were held to just 15 first half points en route to a 54-45 loss to Newton in the quarterfinals at The Buford Arena.
The Lady Rams (23-5) led 12-9 after the first quarter and then clamped down on the Buford offense in the second. They held the Lady Wolves (25-3) to just 6 points in the period while build a 28-15 halftime lead.
Newton extended its lead to 44-27 heading into the fourth quarter. Buford staged a comeback in the final period, outscoring the Lady rams 18-10 but they could not get any closer.
Lydia Ledford helped lead the second half rally scoring 14 of her game-high 23 points in the second half. But no one else reached double figures as E'miah Fields and Cybele Forbes each had 7 points for Buford.
London Smith had 19 points and Zoey Jackson 17 points for Newton. The Lady Rams next will take on North Forsyth in the semifinals at Georgia State on Saturday.
