House fire in Banks County Saturday leaves one family displaced

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A weekend sturcture fire in Banks County leaves a home heavily damaged due to an apparent controlled burn going out of control.

Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols says their Fire and Emergency Service crews were called to 2354 Highway 326 in Commerce Saturday afternoon, March 1, after 3:00 p.m. over a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, Banks fire officials found a single-family residence showing heavy fire.

Nichols' press release added that an interior attach was made to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported and all residents were accounted fore and safe while the fire continued.  The home sustained heavy fire damage.

After an investigation by the Banks County Fire Department, it was determined that the fire was accidental in nature and that a controlled burn went out of hand. Banks County, City of Commerce and Jackson County safety crews needed over two hours to contain the fire damage.
