Jefferson, which has been ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in the Scorbord.com poll off-and-on most of the season, will lead a strong contingent of northeast Georgia girls soccer teams into the first round of the Georgia High School Association playoffs on Thursday.
The Lady Dragons (13-3) are the overall No. 1 seed in Class 3A and will open the postseason against fellow Region 8-3A foe East Hall (4-7) at Memorial Stadium. Jefferson beat the Lady Vikings (No. 32 seed) 10-0 in their previous meeting this season.
Also in Class 3A, Dawson County (No. 8 seed) takes on LaGrange (No. 25) in Dawsonville, and No. 13 seed Cherokee Bluff, which has won 8 of its last 9 games, plays host to West Laurens at Yonah Field.
Lumpkin County was the only girls team in action on Wednesday as they rolled past SE Bulloch with a 5-1 win on the road to advance to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Ten area teams will be in action on Thursday, trying to advance to the Sweet 16 next week.
