Top-ranked Jefferson was business as usual at Memorial Stadium in Thursday's second round of the Class 3A playoffs.
The Lady Dragons (15-3) dominated No. 17 Lumpkin County, 7-0. Jefferson will now face No. 8 seed Dawson County at home on Monday in the Elite 8. The Jefferson boys also advanced with a 4-1 win over SE Bulloch.
Also in Class 3A, Dawson County (14-4, No. 8 seed) shut out No. 9 seed Richmond Academy, 5-0, at home. Junior Harper Dessoui recorded the hat trick, scoring the first goal of the opening half and the first of the second half. She scored the third goal with 7:11 left in the game. McKinley Adamson and Cayden Townley chipped in goals for the Lady Tigers. The win sets up a showdown with No. 1 seed Jefferson at Memorial Stadium on Monday.
Cherokee Bluff (13-6) shared the love on the road Thursday. Bristol Kersh, Peyton McDaniel and Ashley Scott all scored to lead the 13th-seeded Lady Bears past No. 4 seed Northwest Whitfield to advance to the Class 3A quarterfinals. Bluff will face Gilmer at home on Monday. Gilmer, the 21st seed, upset No. 5 Bainbridge, 9-1, on Thursday.
In Class 2A, No. 8 seed and ninth-ranked East Jackson (12-4) fell to No. 9 seed and eighth-ranked Sonoraville (14-3) 1-0 at home.
